Nursing is an art, it is the heart of health care, and it is a combination of many characteristics.  Nursing includes but not limited to the protection, promotion, and prevention of illness and injury.  Nursing involves the facilitation of healing as well as the alleviation of suffering.  Nursing fundamentally nourishes and is the act of one human-being nourishing another.  It is more than just a career it is a lifestyle.  The advanced practice nurse looks at the whole picture and one's whole family.  I believe that I will be able to demonstrate the philosophy of advanced practice nurse through professional growth, experience and knowledge, as well as by utilizing the most current evidence-based practice and research.  By using what I have learned and experienced over the years, I hope to influence my patients to make the changes one needs to make better health choices.  I have gained the confidence over the years as a nurse to be a patient advocate, to be compassionate, to empathize with them and am positive that these characteristics will be the backbone to my advanced practice career.  I plan to carry these habits forward so I can provide the best quality of care to my patients and their families.  I vow to treat my patients as I would want myself or family treated.
